Do single mothers automatically get judged negatively by society?
There are various opinions out there in society. When you hear the term single mother, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Over the years I have heard so many different things such as “they are the curse of society” or “they just want a hard out”.
As a single mother, I allowed the negative stereotypes to affect how I thought about myself. That was until I decided to start the organization Single Mothers in Progress. Little by little, as I went out into the world trying to help others I began to see how much these mothers are truly held down and mentally beaten by the negative thoughts in society.
Do single mothers struggle? Yes they do. Do single mothers have a harder time then mothers do in marriages? Only sometimes! Do single mothers need to work harder then many or even most? YES THEY DO. This is not a reason to put them down or speak negatively of them nor their children,
Again many negative things said may be true for some of the mothers but it is definitely not true for all.
Can you judge single mothers?
If you cant judge a book by its cover, how is it possible to automatically judge a single mother? I wont say I don’t understand why single mothers are judged, but it doesn’t mean the opinions are right. Judging a single mother is like judging yourself. For example, you are a woman/man. Some may say all women/men are bad. Do you fall in that category? Are you not a woman or a man?
The challenge many single mothers have is teaching their children its okay to be a single mother or the fact that a neglectful father is a reality. Those are the ones who truly need help. The ones who are doing well and trying to do better need your help too. The ones doing great and just seeking an extra push are waiting for your help.
Instead of judging a single mother how about helping one. Join me on my mission to make a difference!
Empowering Single Mothers
I believe in empowering single mothers into knowing, finding, building, and growing their potential. Some women were never taught to be women much less a mother or a wife. Some mothers were raised in abusive homes or lived in abusive relationships.
To give up on these mothers would be saying you give up on the world. Empowering single mothers means empowering the world. In my opinion its more fun to be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem. Many mothers just need a little bit of help.
