My Second Chance

Fundraiser Timeline: Now – end of August

In Ontario, 58% of women in criminal institutions have been a single parent for all or part of their children’s lives.

My Second Chance is a program that provides single mothers, whom are incarcerated and will be released within three months, an opportunity to change their life. These mothers will get a chance to reintegrate back into society and reconnect with their children.

In the three months before their release, mothers will receive help in the form of counseling, goal setting, and life planning/coaching. Once they are released, our organization will continue to aid them for the next year in order to help these mothers stabilize themselves and build/rebuild the relationship with their children. In that year we assist with the following:

  • Finding a job
  • Acquiring a home
  • Rebuilding the bond with their children
  • Assist them to stabilize to regain custody if it was taken away

Our organization is there as a support system. The mothers receive the same services as a regular client but must meet with a worker on a weekly basis.

Your support can give a single mother the opportunity to transform their lives and reconnect with their children, ultimately benefiting the community. Your donation will go towards program expenses such as clothing, transportation, etc. With your help, we can make the community a better place for all those mothers who need a helping hand.

Eligibility for mothers interested in this program: The mothers are registered with the organization. They were a single mother before their incarceration and have a child or children younger than 18 years of age. This was their first criminal charge. They will be released in 3 months.
